Product overview

The Water softening system Aqmos R2D2-48 is ideal for households with up to five people. It ensures soft water by reliably removing limescale. With a regeneration capacity of up to 4800 liters at an inlet water hardness of 10°dH, you can ensure long-term lime-free Tap water quality.

Technical details

The compact system consists of a robust cabinet housing that can hold up to 35 kg of regeneration salt. Inside is a GRP pressure bottle filled with high-quality ion exchange resin. The system operates fully automatically and adapts to individual water consumption.

The integrated BNT 1650 water flow-controlled valve continuously measures the soft water flow. Once the preset volume is reached, regeneration conveniently starts at 2:00 a.m., ensuring a safety reserve of soft water is always available.

How ion exchange works

The heart of the R2D2-48 is the powerful ion exchange resin. This resin is coated with sodium ions (Na⁺). As hard tap water flows through it, calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions are exchanged for sodium. This chemically softens the water and prevents limescale deposits.

After the exchange process, the soft water flows into your home's water system. The exchanged salt is later flushed out during automatic regeneration and disposed of via a separate drain.

Structure and components

The cabinet housing houses both the pressure bottle with ion exchange resin and the salt container for brine preparation. The removable lid allows for easy refilling of the regeneration salt. The storage container's capacity of up to 35 kg of salt allows for long intervals between refills.

The BNT 1650 valve is mounted on the pressure cylinder and is factory-set for delayed, volume-controlled regeneration. It controls the individual phases and ensures demand-based regeneration without user intervention.

Regeneration cycle

When the resin's capacity is exhausted, the system automatically starts the regeneration process. A highly concentrated saline solution (sodium chloride) is passed over the resin to dissolve the adsorbed calcium and magnesium ions.

After the cleaning cycle, the dissolved hardness minerals are flushed down the drain with the excess brine water. The resin is then fully recoated with sodium ions and ready for the next softening phase.

During regeneration, an integrated bypass continues to supply untreated tap water, ensuring uninterrupted water supply.

Commissioning is carried out by qualified personnel who connect the system to the existing water line, configure the valve, and fill the salt container. After the initial filling, the system operates fully automatically and only notifies you when maintenance or salt refilling is required.

Resin Clean – Ion exchange resin cleaner and disinfectant

Resin Clean is a highly concentrated liquid cleaner specially formulated to clean and disinfect ion exchange resin during the regeneration cycle. This ensures long-term maintenance of ion exchange capacity, even in the presence of iron, manganese, or organic contaminants.

Application and functionality of Resin Clean

Add 10 ml of Resin Clean per liter of resin directly into the brine pipe. During the next regeneration, the concentrate will dissolve iron, manganese, and sludge deposits from the resin bed and reliably flush them down the drain.

Composition and dosage

The product is based on phosphoric acid, an effective preservative (benzalkonium chloride), and demineralized water. The simple dosage ensures convenient and safe use.
